Cap or Helmet

Sailing Cap for Kids

A well fitting cap that fits snugly on the head and doesn't slide down and obstruct the child's vision. We insist on a cap because of the sun protection it offers. Waterproof is good but a large visor is a must. Some parents may feel the need for a helmet but we don't insist on it.

03

Sunglasses

Sunglasses for Sailing

Perhaps the coolest accessory you will own is a pair of sports sunglasses. The sun can be particularly blinding while boating as the rays reflect off the water. Sunglasses also shield a boat operator’s eyes from splashing water so they can stay focused on the task at hand. Powered, if you wear spectacles and snug fitting with a pair of ties to keep them attached to your body when you lean down to look at the fishes.

02

Sunscreen

Sunscreen

The most important thing you will always need in your bag while sailing is a good mineral sunscreen of  SPF50 or above. Sweat and waterproof is an added advantage. To be applied 20 minutes before sun exposure and again during breaks.

04

Life Jacket

A comfortable, well fitting life jacket is a must for spending time on the water, no matter the season. Sailing specific life jackets allow a full range of arm movement and should be sleek across the upper torso. Youth or scholastic sailors should consider certified life jackets while some adult sailors prefer buoyancy aids . We can carry jackets at multiple price points for both adult and junior sailors.

Rashvest

Rashvest

A rash guard or UV technical shirt  improves breathability and to keeps you comfortable in warm weather. It also helps keep some of the tan off.

06

Sailing Gloves

Sailing Gloves

While sailing and using sailing lines, gloves are going to be a must to prevent blistered, rope-burned hands. Full-length sailing gloves cover everything except the tips of your fingers and provide the best protection when working sailing sheets, halyards, and anchoring rode. Both short finger (all finger tips open) and full finger (middle three fingers enclosed) styles are good.

07

Water Bottle

Waterbottle

Like the sunscreen, another mark of a sailor is their water bottle. Special bottles with a hook or loop to be tied to the boat are available from the market. We recommend steel bottles for durability of atleast 500ml capacity.

09

Sailing Shoes

Sailing boots should be made of neoprene or rubber and provide some ankle support in addition to insulating the foot. Footwear for dinghy sailors should have a durable sole, be lightweight and be designed to get wet so that you can launch your boat off a beach.

 Sailing Pants

Long Pants for sailing

Sailing pants should be UV protected, waterproof, possibly windproof and cover the sailor from the ankle to mid belly comfortably. Pants should not be excessively baggy and should be comfortable to wear when standing up as well as crouched.

10

Sailing Watch

Timer for racing sailors

The moment you get into serious sailing, this will be the most cherished item you will own. Sailing watches are available in different sixes and features but the most basic ones offer large faced race count down timers. The best sailing watches can offer a multitude of functions, from MOB alerts to tidal calculations. All we need is a timer!
